Canada is among the top destination in the world to work and settle permanently. The federal government has made several immigrants-friendly policies to attract qualified and experienced workers. In recent times IRCC has eased immigration rules and policies to facilitate visa applicants. Spousal visa is one such program where IRCC has reduced the processing time.

Canada Spouse Visa

Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents (PR) can sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner for a spouse visa. This visa will allow the spouse to immigrate to Canada as a permanent resident. This visa will enable a spouse to work, live, and settle permanently in Canada.

Spouse Visa Types

Spouse Visa can further be classified as :

• Outland Sponsorship – If the sponsored partner is residing outside the Canadian border

• Inland Sponsorship – If the sponsored partner is residing within the boundaries of Canada with a temporary Canadian status

Eligibility

• A sponsor must be at least 18 years old

• A sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

• A sponsor must have a clean police record (must not have been charged with a serious offense)

• A sponsor must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident

• A sponsor must not have been invited to Canada as sponsored spouse within the last 5 years.

Reason for Rejections

There are certain rules and regulations determined by the Canadian authorities. A sponsor failing to meet these rules may endanger the entire sponsorship process. Some of them are;

• If an applicant (Sponsor) is under the age of 18.

• If a sponsor was already married to some other person at the time of marrying the sponsored spouse.

• If an applicant (Sponsor) fails to provide financial evidence of supporting a previous sponsorship.

• If an applicant and the spouse lived separately and any one of them had been involved in a conjugal or common-law relationship with a third person.

• Had been admitted to Canada but not examined by the CIC (Canada Immigration and Citizenship)

• If an applicant is involved in an existing sponsorship agreement at the time of filing a spousal sponsorship application.

Visa Processing Time

Before implementing the latest changes, the processing time for a spouse visa application was about 12 months. But now it has been reduced significantly. The time taken for processing the spouse visa application depends on the location of the spouse.

Medical Examination

A medical examination is not required to be submitted in the initial stage. Applicants will receive instructions as to when they are required to submit.

IELTS Requirement

An IELTS score is not required for a spouse visa.
